About FOLD Research

We work with the firms everyone else finds too technical.

FOLD Research was built on a simple observation: the firms with the deepest expertise are usually the quietest online. The partners with twenty years of judgement have three paragraphs on a website. The competitor with half the experience publishes weekly and wins the enquiry.

What we are

A small team of writers, search specialists and researchers who work exclusively with finance and professional services firms. We do not take retail brands, restaurants or property developers. That restriction is the whole point: it is why we can draft a technical article without a two-week briefing, and why we know where the compliance lines sit before you have to explain them.

Most of our clients come to us after an agency relationship that went nowhere. The pattern is always the same — a generalist team that could not translate expertise, so it produced content that said nothing and therefore ranked for nothing.

What we are not

  • Not a design studio. We will build pages, but we are not here to redo your brand.
  • Not a paid-ads shop. We build the asset that makes ads cheaper, not the ads.
  • Not a ghost-posting service that puts words in your partners' mouths without review.
  • Not a firm that promises rankings in thirty days. Anyone who does is selling you something else.
How we work

The engagement, stage by stage

Nothing here is unusual. What is unusual is doing all four in order and not skipping to the fun part.

Stage 1 · Weeks 1–3

Diagnose

We read your last twelve months of enquiries and where each came from. We audit the site technically and editorially. We check what you rank for now, what your two closest competitors rank for, and what your buyers are actually typing. You get a written read, whether or not you continue.

Stage 2 · Weeks 3–5

Position

We agree what the firm should be known for. This is the hardest conversation in the engagement, because the honest answer is always narrower than a partner group wants it to be. Out of it comes a topic map: the questions you will own, in priority order.

Stage 3 · Month 2 onward

Publish

The engine starts. Partner interviews, drafting, technical review, publishing, distribution on LinkedIn, and the technical SEO work behind it. A fixed monthly rhythm, agreed in advance, so nobody is chasing anybody.

Stage 4 · Quarterly

Compound

We report on what moved: rankings, traffic, enquiries, inbound messages. We prune what did not work and put more behind what did. Firms that stay past month nine see most of their return in this stage.

Questions we get asked

Before you call

Will this breach our independence or advertising restrictions?

Technical publishing is compatible with every professional body rule we have worked under, provided claims are evidenced and client work is not identifiable. We draft to that standard by default and route everything through your review before it goes live. If your regulator or network has specific wording rules, send them at the start and we will work inside them.

How much partner time does this actually take?

Thirty to forty-five minutes a month per participating partner, plus a batch approval that usually takes fifteen minutes. If a programme needs more than that from a chargeable partner, it has been designed wrong.

How long before we see anything?

LinkedIn movement shows in four to six weeks. Search movement is slower: meaningful ranking change usually appears between month four and month nine, depending on how much authority the domain already has. We report monthly so you can see the direction well before the outcome.

Do you write about our clients?

Never identifiably. Situations are anonymised and generalised to the point where nobody in the market could reconstruct who it was. This is also why our own case studies name a client type rather than a client.

Can you work with our existing marketing team?

Usually that is the best arrangement. We take the parts that need sector knowledge — technical drafting, search strategy, research — and your team keeps brand, events and the rest.

What does it cost?

Monthly retainers scale with output and typically run from a single-service programme up to a full content, search and social engagement. Research projects are priced per study. We quote after the diagnosis, not before, because quoting before means guessing.

Tell us where you are stuck

Most first calls last half an hour and end with a straight answer about whether we are the right firm for the problem.
